Welcome back to our series of Step Over Hunger guest blogs.
We’ve invited some of our favourite Step Over Hunger participants to answer a few questions for our blog, sharing some top tips and spreading motivation to hit our step goals.
This time, we’re excited to introduce Tayyibah & Husnaa, also known as Junglee Joggers. We’re delighted to welcome them into our Charity Right family and can’t wait to hear what they has to say.
So, over to you, Junglee Joggers!
1. Tell us a little bit about you both!
Salams, it’s Tayyibah and Husnaa here, aka JungleeJoggers. We are both sisters and best friends who love sharing adventures outdoors.
2. What made you set up Junglee Joggers? Were you inspired by anyone?
During the pandemic, the only way we could meet up was outdoors. We both liked the outdoors but it was less frequent due to our busy lifestyles.
The pandemic put everything on hold, and we were limited to doing anything but being outside. So, we would meet up over really random outdoor activities, sometimes it was cycling, jogging, skating, skipping.
3. Share one of the best moments you two had when out walking together.
One of our best moments was a spontaneous outing with Cherelle from Steppers UK. She convinced us to wake up at 2am in the morning to chase the sunrise at Malvern Hills.
Sacrificing our sleep was so worth it! We saw the most gorgeous sunrise. It was a magical experience SubhanAllah.
4. What are the benefits of hiking or walking together opposed to doing it alone?
Sharing our walking and hiking together is always so much more fun and enjoyable. We do sometimes go on walks without each other, but we always miss each other.
Nobody else gets our jungliness, or wants to partake in our jungliness. We get to catch up, and it’s always more special when we’re walking together.
5. Will you be hitting your step goal together or tackle it individually?
We’ve been walking alone on most days, as we live separately. But we have walked with each other every Friday for this month.
6. Will you be doing any big hikes to meet your step goals?
We took part in the Muslim Hikers Dovedale trek. It was a 6-mile walk! Extremely cold, but we enjoyed the views and got our older sister in-law to join us.
7. Where’s your favourite place to go hiking?
Our favourite hike to date has to be a 22-mile hike in the Gower Peninsula, Wales. We hiked over two days along the Welsh coast, experiencing the most epic views.
We haven’t experienced a better walk than this! Check it out.
8. Are you picky about weather when it comes to walking? Or will you go hiking come rain or shine?
We are definitely not picky!
We enjoy all the elements – summer sunshine, snowfall and rain! We just have to make sure we’re prepared for it; saying that, we did once walk unprepared in torrential rain, wearing sliders and abayas for a couple of hours. It was sunny when we had left! It was an experience to say the least.
9. What top tips do you have for fitness newbies working towards their step goal?
Enjoy your walking; go at your own pace; set a realistic challenge; try to get someone involved, and always remember why you started the challenge in the first place.
10. Why support Charity Right with Step Over Hunger?
We feel that it’s so important that we do what we can to help. Allah has blessed us, with blessings upon blessings. It’s the least we can do.
We are happy to be part of such a meaningful campaign, ensuring that children are fed so they can focus in school, so they can progress in life.
