Welcome back to our series of Step Over Hunger guest blogs.

We’ve invited some of our favourite Step Over Hunger participants to answer a few questions for our blog, sharing some top tips and spreading motivation to hit our step goals.

This time, we’re excited to introduce Azia! We’re delighted to welcome her into our Charity Right family and can’t wait to hear what she has to say.

So, over to you, Azia!

1. Please introduce yourself!

My name is Azia! I’m a Lead Design Research Consultant in my day job and also run a family leather business with my husband where we make handmade leather handbags, belts and other leather accessories in London.

2. You’re a baker! How do you stay healthy with all the temptations around you?

I’d say definitely an amateur baker, it’s something that I have loved even more since having my children and the joy that they get from getting involved.

Staying healthy is tough, so we don’t bake all the time, the bakes_by_azia account actually began a couple of years back when my good friend Farah was helping Bakes for Syria & Gaza. She enjoyed my baked goods and encouraged me to launch the small business.

3. Have you ever done any other fundraising in the past or is this the first time?

Yes, I’ve done Walks for Syria, Bakes for Gaza/Syria a couple of years ago.

I’ve also been involved in Step for Diabetes a couple of years ago where I gave up chocolate. My husband is a type 1 diabetic, so this meant a lot to us.

4. How many steps have you chosen as your goal? And why?

I chose 10,000 per day because that’s generally a healthy amount. I also just wanted to try and fit the steps in as I have quite a sedentary job and if I commit to doing something for a cause or for someone else, I’m more likely to do it!

5. How do you like to exercise usually?

Unless I get up at 5am each day it’s not happening; I would love to exercise more but it’s often tough to fit in around my work and family.

On days that I work from home, my husband has caught me walking around the kitchen island just to make up my 10,000 steps because I’ve been in work mode for most of the day.

6. What’s your favourite outdoor activity?

I don’t have one specific activity, but I love swimming and boxing.

7. Have you started any extra exercise to hit your step goal?

Not really, the intention is there but I’m just a busy working mum.

8. Do you have any tips for anyone struggling to hit their step goal?

You have till midnight to get the steps in! Walk around your house, jog on the spot… kids that don’t have access to school dinners are relying on YOU. Let’s do it!

9. Have you learnt anything while you work towards your step goal?

Pick a monthly step goal instead of a daily one – some days I’m so sedentary and work long hours that I’m exhausted trying to make it u. Whereas as soon as I’m off on the weekend or not working from home, I’m able to do so much more!

10. Why support Charity Right with Step Over Hunger?

My kids are able to have access to school meals and nutritious food aids concentration and provides energy. I would just feel so delighted if even one child could benefit from the meals, focus at school and if it helps them learn and feel good about themselves.

So, why not let it help someone else… it’s our duty as a good Muslim, right?
