We’ve got some exciting news to share…
Charity Right is expanding the Health, Hifz & Happiness programme to include children in Ethiopia!
Why Ethiopia?
Ethiopia has been in a crisis since 2015.
Its seven-year drought has become the worst drought on record, affecting 24 million Ethiopians and plunging 11.9 million into severe food insecurity by the end of 2022.
On top of that, the political situation and ethnic tensions led to a conflict along the boundaries of the Oromo and Somali regions, displacing 1.1 million people in eastern Ethiopia between 2016 and 2018.
How Will Health, Hifz & Happiness Help?
Our beneficiaries will be the Hifz students attending school in Dendema Town in Babile Woreda, an area particularly affected by conflict, displacement and drought where food is scarce.
Interestingly, when we crunched the numbers, we see that there are no reported dropouts when schools offer free school meals. Often when food and money is scarce, families tend to withdraw children from school so they can earn for much-needed income just to afford food.
By supplying school meals, children can stay in school for a full education and improved physical and mental health. There, they learn academic subjects you would expect, like science, maths and languages, including Somali, English and Amharic.
Their Hifz education is the most important: memorising the Quran is the key to unlocking their future. It combines recitation, memorisation and lifelong skills with a deep understanding of Islam and a command of the Arabic language to open doors to higher education.
Ready to Start a Sponsorship?
There’s no way to properly convey how important donating school meals is; it gives underprivileged children a chance for an education that can lead to a brighter future for themselves and their families. You can always go one step further…
Sponsoring a Hifz student may be a commitment, but it’s one you’ll be proud of for the rest of your life.
Our Hifz sponsorship programme is Zakat-eligible, fulfilling your obligation while supporting Ethiopian students at the same time.
