I’m sure you noticed a little football tournament that’s been going on for the past few weeks… You don’t need to be a sports fan to notice the flags flying from cars, football shirts on excited teenage boys, and rowdy men chanting ‘It’s Coming Home’ across the country.
Sadly, it’s not coming home for England (who’d have thought!), but you might still be looking forward to the final on Sunday.
And if you’re a football fan, not only do you have something in common with some of the children we support, but we have a little challenge to begin the new year with!
Putting Their Game Face On
You might not be able to travel to Qatar, but you’re luckier than you know just to be able to watch the final on TV.
Some of our beneficiaries love football!
Whether they’re in Sudan, Malawi or Bangladesh, we’ve got plenty of children who are obsessed with kicking a ball about – and some of them are actually pretty good! They all have a favorite footballer and some even dream of becoming a footballer themselves…
But because they’re stuck in a cycle of poverty, football has to take a backseat most of the time.
It’s not just education a lot of these kids miss out on – thousands of children can’t even enjoy their hobbies, whether it’s playing a game or watching one.
Life isn’t something they can enjoy; instead, it’s all about survival.
But what if we could help change that?
Time to Get Match Fit
Did you know that in a regular footie match players do 144 steps per minute! And in the more competitive games, their step count goes up to 195 per minute.
That’s over 10k steps with just an hour of kicking a ball around!
Now hey, we only expect you to enjoy football from the comfort of your sofas! But imagine you had the chance to get fit without the scary step counts?
In January, we start our Step Over Hunger challenge, where you can walk as many days as you like across the month with family, friends or by yourself – all while raising money for school meals.
You can achieve this anywhere, with anyone and in any way you want… you can even reach your step goals by playing a quick game of football!
So, decide on your target step count, collect sponsors and play a few games – you never know, by doing so, you might end up feeding your future football star!
