Did you know that the average distance cycled per person in the UK is 53 miles each year?
Now imagine, you did over 18 times that number? Imagine you rode 980 miles in just 9 days…
Sound challenging?
Well, that’s because it absolutely is!
Don’t worry, we’re not asking you to take this up (though, you can if you want to!).
Instead, we have our very own athlete, Irfan Damiel, volunteering to go up against 980 miles on a cycle – and the added bonus? He’s doing it for a very special cause!
The Man of the Hour
From the 10th of September 2022 to the 18th, Irfan will undergo the infamous LEJOG cycle ride…
With a whopping total of 980 miles, Irfan will journey the ENTIRE length of Britain; from the most southerly point (Land’s End in Cornwall) to the most northerly point (John O’Groats in Scotland) – all on a bike.
Oh – and he’ll be camping the whole time.
No fancy hotels for him – that would make it too easy!
Even though Irfan is a bit of a cycle-lover, he’s never ever taken on a challenge like this. After all, over 100 miles each day for 9 days straight is some pretty daunting stuff.
Putting all his nerves and doubts to a side, Irfan is determined to take on his greatest challenge yet to support Charity Right’s school meals programme in Afghanistan.
Why Is He Putting Himself Through This?!
To accomplish a journey like this is without a doubt a huge personal achievement. But that’s not only why Irfan’s putting himself through nights of cold and rain…
The main reason? To raise £5,000 for Charity Right’s work in Afghanistan and help change lots of young lives forever.
Afghanistan is in the midst of the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.
And when you look at some of the stats, it’s not surprising:
• Half the population live in poverty with the lowest life expectancy in the world
• Over 3 million under-5-year-olds are acutely malnourished
• Children of all ages are vulnerable to preventable diseases, like measles and polio
Unfortunately… there’s no easy way out.
So What Makes This Bike Ride Special?
Every child deserves an education. And… with an education comes hope and opportunity.
At Charity Right, we’re offering regular nutritious school meals. After all, if the kids are already fed, parents can save a bit of much-needed money. And once they’re in school, the sky’s the limit for these children.
By riding across Britain, Irfan is raising £5,000 – enough to feed a class of over 30 children for an entire year!
How YOU Can Help
You’ll be over the moon to know that we’re not asking you to cycle 980 miles. But you can still help without exhausting yourself.
All it takes is a donation. It costs:
• £13 feed a child schools meals for a month
• £75 feeds a child school meals for 6 months
• £150 feeds a child school meals for a whole year
Help Irfan reach his target by donating here.
And if you want to help improve young lives every month, you can donate here.
Afghanistan may be suffering today, but with legends like you and Irfan, a brighter future is on the horizon.
