Meet Safura and read her story for joining the Ramadan Challenge 💗

My challenge is to do daily hill sprints along with bouldering weekly with the aim of becoming a confident v2 climber. I chose these two activities because they’re not only new to me, I find them difficult too. I dislike running. I have always found it challenging to stick to, and I am petrified of heights! so these two activities are perfect to push me out of my comfort zone.

I’m learning so much more about myself through this challenge, such as how I prefer trail running to flat ground running, how to push past the doubts/fears I have, to subdue that little voice telling me to give up, to just trust myself, to stay true to my word and stick to the promises I have made to myself.

Because let’s be honest, running uphill is torture. It’s not an enjoyable process. And bouldering has challenged me in other ways which I didn’t think it would. I am learning that it’s less about arm strength and more about your mind. Because it’s just a puzzle, one which you need to step back and assess before embarking on the climb. So it somewhat forces you to slow down. I have also become part of another amazing group who take pride in diversifying UK climbing.

Aside from the personal goals, one of the biggest reasons why I’ve decided to do this as a fundraising activity is because I wanted to do all I can to provide warm food for children around the world. And what better way to do that than to broaden your horizons and step into the unknown, all whilst raising money for such a worthwhile cause.

You’ll be surprised at what you’re capable of if you change your mindset and just stop making excuses. I’ve always wanted to show the world that even as a single parent it is possible to hold onto who you are and to remain as active as possible. I hope through me being transparent with my journey, that it can inspire even just one person to get up and be active – in whatever way that looks like for them. 🤍”

Stay tuned! The Ramadan Challenge is almost back for its third year running! We can’t wait to have you join us.
